Frances spent some time with the wonderful Vanessa Andreotti and Tereza Čajková from the Gesturing Towards De-colonial Futures Collective. There were thought provoking cartographies to engage with, challenging conversations and powerful embodied exercises. As well as being inspired to embrace radical confusion! Frances has become acutely aware of our individual and collective responsibilities to each other. She is particularly keen to promote ways of working that are built on solidarity and mutual respect, that acknowledge privilege, power and discrimination, and are not afraid to engage in dialogue that is difficult for the purpose of healing and bridge building. In particular, when working in ‘international development’ Frances believes it is important to acknowledge the legacies of colonialism, to recognise and challenge them, as a first step in building more equal and positive partnerships.
