Over the past six months Paperboat have worked with International Alert to evidence the impact of peace eduction in response to the rise of youth recruitment to violent extremist groups within Syria. Paperboat supported International Alert to track the progress of a series of innovative peace initiatives working across the region - in Turkey, Lebanon and Syria - to demonstrate the role peace education can play in building resilience to violence. Paperboat were delighted to join International Alert in London for the latest Peace Talks event, 'Building peace from the bottom up in Syria: Community-based peacebuilding from Aleppo to London', on Tuesday 3 May 2016. This marked the culmination of a research study completed by Paperboat's team members, Meg Aubrey, Rosie Aubrey and Frances Brodrick for Alert looking at reducing young Syrians’ vulnerability to recruitment by violent extremist groups through peace education. The event was a great success bringing together experts and activists working across the region and the UK to examine how peace can be built from the bottom up. The event saw the launch of Alert’s new report co-authored by Paperboat's team, Why young Syrians choose to fight. Inspirational meeting with Olfat Mahmoud and Sara Barakijiki from Palestinian Women’s Humanitarian Organisation (PWHO) discussing their work in Bourj el-Barajneh Palestinian refugee Camp, in Beirut. Paperboat are working with Kvinna till Kvinna, PWHO and 27 partners across Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon to find effective ways of capturing the project outcomes, activities and progress of their women's empowerment work, so they can demonstrate their success and impact to their donors and potential funders. |
